Inga Dalrymple
Inga Dalrymple’s practice encompasses painting and drawing. Through colour, line, layers of paint and composition she captures fleeting impressions and memories of her surroundings. Perceiving the physical world with curiosity is where Inga always start, as she looks and collects observations – the way a shadow might fall along a wall, a colour combination of random objects resting on a dusty shelf, often noting them down to recall back in the studio. Music, poetry, and unusual words also inform her work, anything that evokes a memory, or a sensation can provide a reason to paint. While subject matter comes mainly from the landscape, both natural and urban, and still life, much of the artists work also reflects an interior dialogue, a conversation with the materiality of paint, what it can do, how she can extend or push it to say something surprising, a flourish, layer, line or colour that informs Inga’s next move.
