Martin Redmond

Martin Redmond is an artist who prefers to work in small scale, experimenting with different mark making techniques and colour palettes by exploring realism in everyday objects through detail and shade. Martin chooses his subjects to be intentionally smaller than real life and recreated in muted hues as he aims to compose an effect of being drawn into the small and quiet space that the objects inhabit. The objects are marked by the remains of a human presence which the artist attempts to make explicit through the careful rendering of the creases, rips and folds.

Reflecting on the ordinary and commonplace Martin’s subjects are pieces of the mundane experience cast in the shadows of everyday life. Abstracted from their usual roles and presented as something worthy, Martin is interested in what happens when these objects which are habitually overlooked are offered to be seen more than their practical value. In this process, he hopes that their value is transformed and reconsidered, changing the relationship with how we see objects in time through a mindful re-examination.
