Maggie Royle

Working in a spirit of playful improvisation, Maggie Royle, makes oil paintings and collages on paper and canvas. Her work is primarily process led and non-representational and makes reference to the history of abstract painting. The paintings feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which are informed by an eclectic range of sources, including memory, imagination, music, travel, things observed, thoughts and events. A recent studio move has prompted new, surprising strands of work; collages are evolving from the remnants of previous paintings. Abstract paintings often invite the viewer to form their own interpretations and these works might recall something remembered or imagined, or something just out of reach.
