Yoo Choong Mok

Living in another country for over ten years made Yoo Choong Mok think more desperately about identity and self. After returning home to Korea, many things had changed. The rapidly changing Korean society rather gave Yoo time to think more deeply about the past. In particular, he looked back on and studied Korean art, and expressed each inspiration in visual language. The artists work abstractly expresses the harmony of lines, sides, and three dimensions as well as the vertical and horizontal, which are the basis of all compositions and based on the dancheong and five colours representing Korea.

In particular, the brilliance of glass droplets play a role in making people forget the concept of dimension and has the visual power to think about the past, modernity, and future at the same time.

For Yoo, droplets mean both the beginning and the end. Yoo believes that water droplets create a true self by accumulating all of his experiences, just as moisture in the air gathers to become an individual and creates numerous lives.
