Sabine Le Roch

Sabine le Roch’s medium of choice is raw linen that she softens with primer before adding successive layers of collage which are often made up of old papers, and photographic prints of her previous work.

The flesh of the canvas seems to emerge from this process, like a reality awaiting movement in these reliefs and depressions, clung to by pure pigments and the strata of printed images. The shadows and colors yield themselves up gently. They gradually appear in the thickness of the material, like so many pathways where the light is fading, suggesting forms and underscoring the contrasts.

Eroded by abrasion, her photos impregnate the canvas just as our emotions fix the nostalgia of a memory. While the carnal density of her dialog with the medium is at the forefront, the framing and instinctive composition of these natural and urban landscapes place them at the center of an intimate perception. These suggested universes and the absence of the other give room for time – that which is necessary for reflection and identification.
