Eiji Ohashi

Photographer Eiji Ohashi has been capturing Japan’s vending machines for well over 10 years. Vending machines in Japan can be found almost everywhere around the cities and it some of the countries most rural areas. The idea of documenting them came when Eiji himself was caught in a blizzard and used the illuminated vending machines to help him find his way home.

As evening draws in, the vending machines light up Japan creating one of the worlds most unique scenes. Typically, they stand alone in solitude and continue to light up the streets whatever the weather and time of day. They are a symbol of loneliness and convenience and if no longer used they are removed from the street, taking away their endless glow as well as a little piece of Japan.
