Edie Beaucage
Los Angeles-based painter and video artist Edie Beaucage is committed to her direct and subjective imagination. "I have reconnected criticality to my reality by including myself in the narrative process. I use memories of my sibling's teenage years, with our flaws and particularities, as a primary creative source for my characters by imagining new versions of ourselves as protagonists in various nonlinear scenarios. In this auto-fiction, we are self-confident and cool (which in reality we were far from being)." Edie conflates these memories with favorite artworks from art historical cultures. Remixing byzantine icon characteristics and renaissance portraits poses with 1970s bouffant-haired musicians and the stylish barista at her favourite coffee shop in Venice Beach. "We become epochal in my work because we are of all times"
