Art Stories With Amar Singh
Formation Art recently had the pleasure of visiting Amar Gallery and filming a documentary about the gallery and its founder, Amar Singh. We gained exclusive insight into their latest exhibition featuring Lawrence Calcagno. This captivating, short documentary offers a glimpse into the world of art, passion, and cultural significance.
Amar Singh, the visionary founder of Amar Gallery, is a passionate advocate for underrepresented artists. Driven by a lifelong love of art and a desire to create a more inclusive and diverse art world, Amar has established Amar Gallery as a platform for showcasing the work of talented artists who might otherwise be overlooked.
Amar's journey began as a young boy when he had a chance encounter with the renowned Indian artist S.H. Raza. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for art and inspired Amar to pursue an art career of his own. Throughout his education and early career, Amar developed a deep appreciation for the power of art to evoke emotions, inspire reflection, and challenge societal norms.
In founding Amar Gallery, Amar sought to create a space where artists could showcase their work without fear of judgment or discrimination. He believes that art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. Amar's commitment to supporting underrepresented artists is evident in his meticulous research and curation process, which involves seeking out talented individuals who might otherwise be overlooked due to their gender, race or sexuality.
Amar believes that collecting art is not just about acquiring beautiful objects but also about preserving history and supporting artists. By collecting and showcasing works by underrepresented artists, Amar aims to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse art historical narrative. He emphasizes the importance of supporting artists at all stages of their careers, providing them with the resources and recognition they deserve.
For Amar, Amar Gallery is more than just a place to exhibit art; it's a platform for fostering future generations of creative talent. He believes that by providing opportunities for young artists to showcase their work and connect with established professionals, he can help to nurture the next generation of art leaders. Amar is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where artists can thrive and develop their skills. He envisions Amar Gallery as a hub for creativity and innovation, where new ideas and perspectives can flourish.
Amar's dedication to making art accessible to all is evident in his efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for both artists and visitors alike. He believes that art has the power to transform lives and bring people together, and he is committed to using his platform to promote understanding, empathy, and social justice.
Before the opening night of the exhibition featuring the late Lawrence Calcagno, we had the privilege of visiting Amar Gallery to witness the behind-the-scenes preparations. The gallery was a hive of activity, with the team diligently hanging paintings, setting up lighting, and preparing the exhibition space. It was a fascinating glimpse into the work that goes into organizing a successful art exhibition.
Calcagno's exhibition at Amar Gallery marked a significant milestone in his career. As his first solo exhibition in London, it provided a much-needed platform to showcase his life and talent. The exhibition featured an incredible selection of Calcagno's works, exploring themes of nature, memory, and what it means to be human.
On opening night, the gallery was packed with people. Everyone was there to celebrate Calcagno's art and show their support for Amar Gallery. There was a great atmosphere, with lots of chatting, lots of wine, and awesome live music from S.O.L Collective.
It was amazing to see how art can bring people together, even years after an artist’s passing. The success of the opening night showed that more and more people are recognizing the importance of supporting underrepresented artists. Amar Gallery is definitely on its way to becoming a major player in the London art scene.
